Often companies put their business at risk by not testing their fire alarm system. Having a fire alarm installed to your property, simply isn't enough. You must ensure that the alarm system is correctly tested.
How often should my fire alarms be tested?
Within Government regulations states that fire alarms need to be maintained and tested regularly. Offices, retail premises, and industrial properties, should test their fire alarm systems once a week. You should also ensure that your employees and any customers/visitors within the property are made aware of the test. Business/companies that are at an increase risk of fire, due to the nature of the company, may want to test the fire alarms more often.
A trained and 'competent person' should carry out inspections of the fire alarms at least every six months. This will often be done by a organisation which is third-party certified. It is thought of as good practice in homes, to test the fire alarm or smoke detector once a week.
